Blessed with a talent

My number one true passion. I've been dancing ever since I was five years old and have never stopped. My passion for dancing hula will always be there. I first started dancing with my cousin and her halau (group). It took about 15 minutes every Tuesday and Saturday to get to and from my destination, but nothing had stopped me. Every mid day my mom would drop me off at hula practice and then would leave me until I was finished. The first song that I had ever learn was Pupu Hinuhinu. Although  now days that song is not quite the attraction song, I still  LOVE it. By the age of eight or so I had joined another halau that was only five minutes away from my home in Kaneohe. From paying free99 (nothing) to twenty-five dollars a month was pretty hard, but my mom kept me happy like the little spoiled brat that I am(: Through out my years with Na Opio O Koolau, I had the opportunity to dance in the Keiki Hula Competition. The first year I had joined I thought I was literally going through HELL (sorry if you get offended with my words). From having practices every Thursday to having it every night was my worse night mare. From doing duck walks around the gym and basketball court, to leaving our hands out until everyone understood what a 45 degree angle was, to running over the song until everyone was in sync and then making sure no one falls over from fainting was very stressful at that age. Never in my mind would I have to think that I would have to put this much stress on myself haha. I remember driving all the way to the other side of the island to camp out in a back yard and not sleeping til 2:30 AM cause no one had the dance down yet. Then one girl started to cry because she was about to fall (yes that was not me LOL nbfrl).
After watching Living Legends tonight I absolutely missed home and missed dancing. Since I've moved to Utah I only dance when I'm asked to which is not very often. When I dance hula, I feel as if I'm in a whole new world where no one is watching but my papa. The only person who I wish I could dance for. I'm truly blessed to learn this wonderful dance and to share it with the world!!!
